The most beautiful village in Italy is Sicilian again! The winner is… Petralia Soprana, village of the Madonie –

For the fourth time the prestigious award remains in Sicily. Read on to see the video … Petralia Soprana, a small town located in the Palermo area, has won the title of “Borgo dei Borghi”. The recognition promoted by the well-known RAI Broadcasting “Alle Falde del Kilimangiaro”, for the fourth time remains therefore in Sicily. After Gangi (2014), Montalbano Elicona (2015) and Sambuca di Sicilia (2016) this year the “title” went to Petralia Soprana. It is the highest municipality of the Madonie and is located just a few kilometers from Gangi. Petralia Soprana won the ambitious award given by Philippe Daverio thanks to its landscape and architectural beauties.

DESTINATION TAORMINA

Taormina sits across the Strait of Messina, that divides the Region of Calabria from the Island of Sicily. Mother Nature has created a masterpiece here, painting the gorgeous sea into its background. Siracusa

The Sicilian City of Syracuse is a wonderland. Echoes of ancient civilizations still resound in the streets of this coastal city, and Baroque architecture narrates its eventual rebirth as sun, sand and sky envelop it with their brilliance. Ragusa

This is a province primarily designed by man. Farmers in particular have contributed to Ragusa’s character, appearance and cuisine, for years shaping the countryside through seed-sowing and cultivation of the harvest that abounds on the people’s tables. PALERMO AND MONREALE Palermo, founded by the Phoenicians with the name Ziz ‘flower’ – developed enormously under the Arabs and then under the Normans and Hohenstaufens, so much so that most of its most prestigious monuments were built in those periods. The city formed along the main street, the “Cassaro” (now Corso Vittorio Emanuele), intersected from the sixteenth century on by via Maqueda. Easter in Sicily

Sicily is famous for its spectacular celebrations surrounding Pasqua (Easter) as Sicilians head to church and take to the streets in parades to honour the most important week in the Christian calendar. Festivities continue throughout Holy Week, culminating on Easter Sunday, when families enjoy a lunch based on roast lamb and specially-prepared cakes.
