Marzamemi, fishing village in southern Sicily – Sicily dmc incentives

Sicily DMC – Marzamemi is an ancient fishing village famous for its tonnara= tuna fishery. The small seaside town is 2 km away from Pachino, in the province of Syracuse. To reach it, you can land at Catania airport (100 km away) or at Comiso airport (75 km away). Interbus buses leave from Catania and reach Pachino. If you move by train, however, you get to Noto and from here you can take a bus. Finally, by car, you must take the Messina / Catania / Siracusa / Gela highway and exit at Noto, where the provincial road for Pachino starts (Sicily DMC- Marzamemi). It is an evocative place with its fishing soul. Its Tonnara is one of the most important in all of Sicily, and dates back to the time of Arab domination. Although in recent years the resort has focused heavily on tourism, thanks to its beautiful beach and the port equipped to dock pleasure boats, its luck is still today mainly in fish products such as bottarga and bluefin tuna belly, and wine: Nero d’Avola is produced here, one of the most famous Italian wines. Without forgetting the Pachino tomato, a PGI product that takes its name […]

Sicily DMC Incentives / Ragusa

Sicily DMC Incentives / Ragusa  This is a province primarily designed by man. Farmers in particular have contributed to Ragusa’s character, appearance and cuisine, for years shaping the countryside through seed-sowing and cultivation of the harvest that abounds on the people’s tables. The same fruits of the soil render unique the fragrances of Ragusan foods and wines. Sicily DMC Incentives / Ragusa is a puzzle of shaped tiles perfectly-placed along the long dry walls constructed by the local people. The walls’ hues of brown contrast with newly tilled fields and brilliantly-green, sprouting crops. Its landscape traces the Iblei highlands and valleys, the unrivaled masters of the Ragusa inlands that are characterized by profound canyons, eroded over time by flowing rivers and streams. The landscape becomes gentler as it slopes down towards the splendid coast, with Scoglitti and Pozzalo marking out its confines. It is an alternating balance of cliffs and endless beaches of finest sand. The colors one can witness here are truly beyond words, painted by sunrays at play over the blue seas and golden beaches. Picturesque villages and charming localities welcome us to a seaside holiday, within the delightful ambience of open-air events under a star-lit sky. If […]

Sicily DMC Incentives: parks in Sicily

Sicily DMC Incentives: The great Sicilian parks Sicily DMC Incentives: Regional parks are now an efficient reality both for the protection of delicate ecosystems and for the tourist, sports and educational enhancement of mountain areas. The Sicilians parks are four in order of establishment: the Park of Etna (Catania), the Madonie (Palermo), the Nebrodi (Catania, Enna and Messina) and, last born, the Fluvial Park of Alcantara (Messina and Catania). The latter is certainly a natural system of almost primitive beauty, where the landscape is shaped by the encounter between water and fire, with the river that digs and meets the hot lava, creating great stone architectures: gorges, polished walls, water jumps, smooth and square stone blocks. If Alcantara is characterized by river vegetation (with the eastern platano and the white willow, endemic species along the shores, a few meters from the water, mix with citrus and fichidindia), the Etna Park, with its orography marked by lava eruptions, is a true botanical garden. The large active volcano – with its 3,300 meters is the highest in Europe – features the northern slope covered by a thick snow cover for most of winter, and large birch or beech forests paint an unusual […]

SICILY DMC – PANTELLERIA SIKELIA

SICILY DMC – PANTELLERIA: a holiday far from the madding crowd on one of Sicily’s minor islands   SICILY DMC – PANTELLERIA A wild and peaceful land at the heart of the Mediterranean, offering African-hued sunsets and unforgettable starlit nights: welcome to Pantelleria, a beautiful and intriguing place, born around 300,000 years ago, whose volcanic origins are reflected still today in its colours and its secrets. Pantelleria is part of Sicily, but the island actually lies much closer to Africa than Italy. It is precisely this privileged position (Homer called it “the navel of the Mediterranean”) which gives the island its look and its culture rich in contrasts, a place of Arabic forms and typical scents of Southern Italy. The island stands out, amongst other things, for its rugged coastline and the green countryside overhanging the sea. This isn’t a place of sandy beaches, but rather one of small coves with crystal clear waters, spectacular and mysterious caves and a descent to the sea over smooth rocks. Pantelleria’s volcanic origins are also to thank for its authentic open air spa facilities: from the hot springs of Gadir and the Benikulà Cave natural sauna to the mud of the Lago di Venere, every corner […]

Sicily DMC Incentives: Mount Etna: new fantastic lava flow shoot from drone

Sicily DMC Incentives – Mount Etna has given very nice activity, and quite varied (Strombolian activity from the “saddle vent” between old and new Southeast Crater cones, sporadic emissions of brown ash from the New Southeast Crater). Sicily DMC Incentives – Mount Etna The lava flow has advanced not much more than 1 km from the crater and during the day was advancing slowly toward south-southwest. ETNA Sicily’s greatest natural attraction is also its highest mountain. To the ancient Greeks, Mount Etna was the realm of Vulcan, god of fire, and the home of the one-eyed monster known as the Cyclops. At approximately 3350 meters, it is €pe’s highest active volcano. The height of its summit changes with each eruption, and over the centuries a few lava flows have reached the coast. Over 1200 square meters of Etna’s surface is covered with solidified lava. Etna offers skiing in the Winter months and breathtaking hikes in the woods during the Summer. There are also a number of smaller peaks on the slopes of Etna, and some interesting caverns. Since Etna is a strato volcano , with relatively cool lava temperatures and numerous openings (vents), nobody ever knows precisely where on its […]
